How to catch Common Yellow Swallowtail

Use the Insect Net. The exact approach depends on the creature’s category and, for shore-dwellers, its species type.

1. Equip the Insect Net and approach the creature at eye level or on the ground.
2. Most insects can be caught with a simple net swipe; slow down if the species is skittish.
3. Check tree trunks, flowers, shrubs, crops and aerial spaces — the habitat column tells you where this species spawns.

The Common Yellow Swallowtail is sometimes called the "fennel swallowtail" because its caterpillars use fennel as their host plant.

In truth, they're happy to munch on most umbellifers like carrots, so you can call them "carrot swallowtail" just as easily. These names only relate to its larval stage however, since the adult Common Yellow Swallowtail mostly feeds on flower nectar and shows no special preference for umbellifers.
