Petit Planet Neighbor Limit & Capacity, Explained
How neighbor capacity works in Petit Planet: who counts, how to increase it, and what to do when your planet is full.
In this guide
If you are trying to invite a neighbor and the game will not let you, capacity is the usual reason. The system is simple, but two details trip people up: base neighbors do not count, and capacity is expanded through the Luca Arbor rather than bought directly.
Who counts toward the limit?
- Invite neighbors count. These are the neighbors you meet on Starsea Voyages and invite to settle.
- Base story neighbors do not count. Mobai, Elsasani, Glenn, Mors and Trixie settle through the story and have their own slot outside the capacity system.
That means a planet with all five base neighbors is not “full” in the way the UI means it.
How to increase capacity
The Final Beta increased neighbor capacity at three Luca Arbor levels:
| Luca Arbor level | Capacity increase |
|---|---|
| 17 | +1 |
| 24 | +1 |
| 28 | +1 |
These are in addition to the starting capacity. The exact starting number is not stated in the official materials reviewed, so we do not print a fake “start with 3” number. Check the current capacity in the neighbor menu; it is the authoritative source.
What happens when the planet is full?
The game will not let you complete the settle step. You can still meet the neighbor, raise bond and complete their visit quest; you just cannot ask them to move in until a slot opens.
There is no indication in the beta that you can evict a neighbor to make room. Treat the choice as long-term.
Should you rush capacity?
Not necessarily. Capacity upgrades compete with farming and terrain unlocks on the same Luca Arbor. A practical order:
- Get farming online (levels 2–3).
- Pick up the utility unlocks you actually use (dirt mounds, weather, mountain).
- Add capacity when you have a neighbor you genuinely want to settle.
- Save the later capacity levels for the neighbors whose talents fit your routine.
If you are a collector, capacity is more valuable. If you are a decorator, the cosmetic and terrain levels may matter more.
How many neighbors can you have?
Twelve invite neighbors are known. The beta’s capacity upgrades do not necessarily allow all twelve at once, and the launch cap may differ. We do not claim a maximum we cannot verify.
Common mistakes
- Assuming base neighbors use slots. They do not.
- Inviting a neighbor before checking capacity. The visit is not wasted, but the settle step is blocked.
- Upgrading capacity before farming. You will have neighbors and no crops to gift them.
- Expecting a “neighbor limit” setting. Capacity is a progression gate, not a preferences toggle.
